يتناول هذا الكتاب مضامين الخيال في ذاكرة التراث الشعري عند العرب ويتحدث الكاتب عن نشأة الخيال في الفكر البشري الأول، والأقسام المُؤَلِّفَةِ للخيال الذي استعان به الإنسان الأول؛ لكي يعينَه على فَهم مقاصد الحياة التي يُعدُّ الخيالُ مشهدًا من مشاهد فهمها، ويتناول الكاتب عنصر الخيال في الأساطير العربية التي اتخذت من الخيال دعامة لبناء أساطيرها القصصية؛ وذلك لأن الأدب واللغة بشتَّى فروعهما سيظلان في حاجة إلى الخيال، لأنه هو الكَنز الأبدي الذي يمدها بالحياة والقوة والشباب، وقد استطاع الكاتب أن يصل إلى منبع تفجر الخيال، وذلك حينما تحدَّث عن الطبيعة في الخيال الشعري عند العرب. ولم يُغْفِلَ الكاتب مكانة المرأة في الخيال الشعري العربي، وفي النهاية يُجلي لنا الكاتب طبيعة الروح العربية جامعًا بذلك بين صنوف الخيال في شتَّى عوالمه.
