إن الدراسات التي تناولت آثار صدمة الحروب في الأطفال قليلة نسبياً إذا ما قيست بالأبحاث التي جرت على الراشدين. ويبدو ان هناك نقصاً في دراسة صدمة الحرب عند الأطفال عن طريق الرسم الحر الذي يشكل فرصة رائعة أمام الطفل كي يعبّر تلقائياً عن معاناته ومخاوفه ومشاعره.
وبما أن لبنان هو بلد النزاعات السياسية والحروب بامتياز، فليس من الممكن دائماً القيام بدراسات ميدانية حول آثار الحروب النفسية والتربوية في الأطفال، لما تتطلبه هذه الدراسات من جهود وأموال وإعداد لوجستي. لذا، وجدنا أن الرسم الحر قد يكون أداة تشخيصية وعلاجية مفيدة جداً، ويمكن للمعلمين أن يلجأوا إلى الرسم الحر في المدارس لمساعدة الأطفال على ترميم جراحهم النفسية وتنمية مواهبهم الفنية. ويمكننا هنا أن ندرس تطور الحالة النفسية والذهنية عند الأطفال من خلال رسوماتهم وكيف تنعكس عليهم الأحداث الخارجية.
إن الطفل يتأثر بالأحداث السياسية وأعمال العنف والحروب أكثر مما نتصور. لذا يجب أن ننظّم تفكيرنا حول صدمة الطفولة، وإلا غامرنا في أن لا نفهم مطلقاً ظروفها. يجب أن لا ندع أنفسنا ننسى صدمة الطفولة، لأن حجم المشكلة، فعلاً كبير.
