تُوفِّيَ بالقاهرةِ عامَ ١٩٦٢م.

كانت قوة الامام أبو حامد محمد الغزالي التي خلدته كحجة للإسلام، أنه استطاع أن يقف على تلك التيارات المتدافقة من المحاورات الفلسفية والمناظرات الجدلية والمنازعات الفقهية، وأن يجعل القوة الإسلامية المناهضة لتلك الزوبعة تتركز فيه وتتمثل في تعاليمه وصيحاته المستمدة من الكتاب والسنة.كان أشبه بزعيم وطني نبت في شعب ممزق متخاذل واهي الروح، فوحد صفوفه وجدد روحه وأحيا إيمانه.
فأرسل الغزالي صيحة قديمة جديدة، قديمة لأنها صيحة الإسلام في الجزيرة العربية منذ قرون. وجديدة لأنها دوت في مجتمع أوشك، وقد غرق في بحور الجدل والسفسطة، أن ينسى رحيقه الأول.
