يشكّل هذا الكتاب جوابا على ما يعتري مجتمعاتنا السائرة في طريق التطوّرمن مظاهر الانسحاب من ميدان التفكير التي نلمسها عند المتعلّمين والمعلّمين في الميدان التربويّ وعند سائر الناس في المجتمع بصورة عامّة، وإن شذّ على ذلك العديد من الأفراد والمؤسّسات، غير أن المجتمع التربوي بصورة خاصّة والمجتمع بأكمله بصورة عامّة ما زال غارقا في سبات من اللامبالاة أمام واقع ضرورة إعمال التفكيرفي معالجة شؤون الحياة وشجونها. ويبرز في هذا الإطار إلحاح التربية على بناء التفكير وتنمية مهاراته عند المتعلمين في عالم سريع التغيّرإذ لم يعد باستطاعة التربية الإدّعاء إنّها تعد الإنسان للحياة، فالحياة التي سيعيشها متعلّم اليوم في مستقبل حياته قد لا تشبه ما يعيشه الآن، والمهن التي سيمتهنها قد تختلف كلّياً عن المهن الموجودة في عصرنا الحاضروالمهن التي تعدُّه لها المدرسة؛ من هنا ضرورة التربية على التفكير في عالمٍ سريع التغيّرٍ وتسليح المتعلّمين بما يساعدهم على التأقلم المستمر مع الأوضاع المستجدّة عن طريق إعمال العقل وتنمية مهاراته والرضوخ التامّ لما يمليه علينا في ميادين الحياة كافّة. وهل تستحق الحياة ان تعاش إذا لم يكن الانسان واعياً لإمكانيّاته الفكريّة،عاملاً على استثمارها بهدف تحسين ظروف عيشه مرتكزاً على قدراته الفكريّة؟ والثورة المعرفيّة التي يشهدها العصر الحاضر في العقدين الأولين من الألفيّة الثالثة، أكبر دليلٍ على الاستثمار الواجب للعقول في انتاج المعرفة ونشرها وتعلّمها وتعليمها الّذي نرى ثماره عند الشعوب المتقدّمة، والتي نطمح الى اللحاق بها في المستقبل من الأيّام إذا ما سرنا في طريق إعمال العقل وبناء قدراته واستثمارها في معالجة ما يعيشه من مشكلات يوميّة.
