كان للطبيعة الواضحة المعالم، الأثر الأول في تكوين العقيدة المصرية القديمة، فقد كان إعجاب الفنان بالطبيعة، وحبه لها، سواء أكان ذلك بالنسبة للنباتات البرية أو التي يزرعها، وللحيوانات والطير وكل ما تزخر به البيئة من مظاهر الحياة، ما دفعه إلى أن يتأملها وأن يعيش معها عيشة المحب المتذوق لها، وقد كان من أثر ذلك أن ألهمته هذه الطبيعة أعماله الفنية؛ ولعل فَهْم هذه الحقيقة هو المفتاح الذي نفهم منه الفن المصري القديم, وأن ندرك حقائقه وأهدافه.
لذلك كان أول ما اهتم به الفنان المصري هو إنشاء المقابر والاهتمام بالفن المعماري ؛ فكانت في المراحل المبكرة قبل العصور التاريخية عبارة عن حفر في الجبل يدفن فيها الميت،كما يدفن معه فيها ما يلزمه في حياته الأخروية.
