وقد ذكر أرسطو أن المصور ذيوكيس (Zeuxis) النابغة الذي عاش قبل ميلاد المسيح بنحو أربعمائة سنة كان ينقل عن كل فاتنة حسناء في عصره ما تمتاز به عن غيرها ثم يصنع من مجموع ما اختاره الصور المطلوبة وقد رسم بهذه الطريقة صورة هيلانة ابنة المشترى فجاء رسمه آية في الجمال والإبداع وهكذا فعل المثالين في صنع تمثال فينوس إله الجمال عند الإغريق.
