في هذا الكتاب يتناول المؤلف خمس روايات سعودية رائدة بالعرض والتحليل.. ويؤكد "لم أفرض فكرة مسبقة على أي رواية تناولتها غير أنني حرصت أن ألج إلى كل رواية من باب قراءتها مع القارئ ..معتمداً على العرض والتحليل .. واختياري لهذه الروايات جاء من واقع رغبتي في أن أفتش عن بواكير الرواية في أرض سعودية والوقوف أمامها .. والتبصر بالكيفية التي عولجت بها .. والنظر في موضوعاتها، لنستطلع قسمات البدايات .. بريادتها وعفويتها وأخطائها وحسناتها .. كذلك لا أعتقد أن هذه الروايات تتوافر للقارئ العادي للاطلاع عليها بسهولة، لمضي فترة كبيرة على طبعها وصعوبة الحصول على نسخة منها.
إن آرائي ليست بمثابة القفل على الآخرين .. أو حتى القفل في الموشحة الأندلسية، يتدلى في نهايتها بحروف بارزة، كأنها مفتاح كبير مفقود لعالم الرواية .. أو منارة وحيدة للباحثين عن منارات.
