والنقطة الثانية : هي الحاجة إلى إحلال مجهود فكري واع منظم محل ذلك الافتراض. فإن كل ما أحرزته المدنية البشرية من تقدم بعد المراحل الأولى، أصبح في حيز الإمكان باختراع أساليب في التفكير تجعل في وسعنا أن نفسر، وأن نتنبأ بطريقة عمل الطبيعة بصورة أكثر نجاحاً مما كنا نستطيع، لو أننا اتبعنا طريق "المقاومة الأقل في استعمال عقولنا .
