حِينَ تَكَوَّرَ الظَّرِبَانُ جيمي عَلَى نَفْسِهِ لِيَغْفُوَ دَاخِلَ بِرْمِيلٍ قَدِيمٍ، بَدَأَ شَيْطَانُ الْأَذَى يُوَسْوِسُ لِلْأَرْنَبِ بيتر عَلَى الْفَوْرِ. وَلَكِنَّ عَشَرَاتِ الْمُشْكِلَاتِ قَدْ حَلَّتْ بِذَلِكَ الْكَائِنِ الطَّوِيلِ الْأُذُنِ الْكَثِيرِ الْمُزَاحِ، بَعْدَمَا قَرَّرَ أَنَّ رُؤْيَةَ الْبِرْمِيلِ — وَبِدَاخِلِهِ جيمي — يَتَدَحْرَجُ مِنْ مَكْمَنِهِ أَعْلَى التَّلِّ سَتَكُونُ أَمْرًا مُمْتِعًا لِلْغَايَةِ. وَلَكِنَّهُ خَطَّطَ لِأَنْ يَتَلَقَّى الثَّعْلَبُ ريدي اللَّوْمَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، وَهُوَ مَا حَدَثَ بِالْفِعْلِ؛ فَقَدْ كَانَ الثَّعْلَبُ ريدي هُوَ مَنْ تَلَقَّى اللَّوْمَ عَلَى رِحْلَةِ جيمي الْجُنُونِيَّةِ دَاخِلَ الْبِرْمِيلِ (كَمَا تَلَقَّى نَفْثَةً مِنْ «رَائِحَةِ» الظَّرِبَانِ الْكَرِيهَةِ الَّتِي لَا تُطَاقُ). وَنَالَ بيتر جَزَاءَهُ عَلَى خُدْعَتِهِ الدَّنِيئَةِ حِينَ تَعَرَّضَ فِي مَخْبَئِهِ لِلَسَعَاتِ الدَّبَابِيرِ الْمُؤْلِمَةِ. وَقَبْلَ نِهَايَةِ الْيَوْمِ ذَهَبَ الظَّرِبَانُ جيمي وَالْعَمُّ بيلي الْأُبُوسُومُ لِلْبَحْثِ عَنِ الْبَيْضِ، فَانْتَهَى بِهِمَا الْأَمْرُ إِلَى الْوُقُوعِ فِي مَأْزِقٍ فِي حَظِيرَةِ دَجَاجِ الْمُزَارِعِ براون.
