خصصنا كتابنا السابق للكلام علي الحالة النفسية للشعوب والآن نبحث في الحالة النفسية للجماعات، تتكون روح كل شعب من مجموع صفات وخلال تتولد في أفراده بالتوارث لكن إذا اجتمع عدد من اولئك الأفراد للقيام بعمل من الأعمال تولدت عن اجتماعهم هذا أحوال نفسية جديدة ترتكز علي أحوال الشعب وقد تختلف عنها في كثير من الأوقات اختلافاً كبيراً.
وإني أحاول البحث في موضوع الجماعات علي صعوبته بالوسائل العلمية المحضة أعني أنني أريد أن أتبع فيه نسقاً مؤسساً علي قواعد العلم غير ملتفت إلي الآراء والنظريات والمذاهب الجارية مجرى الأمور المسلم بها لأني أرى أن ذلك هو الوسيلة الوحيدة لاقتناص بعض شوارد الحقيقة ولا سيما إذا كان الموضوع مما يشغل الأفكار مثل موضوعنا فالعالم الذي يرمي ببحثه إلي تقرير أمر من الأمور لا يهتم بما عسى أن يصطدم مع هذا التقرير من المنافع والمصالح.
