في أجواء القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي ، تدور أحداث رواية " الغوازى" للكاتب الروائي إسلام محمود ، والتي تتناول مسيرة آخر غوازي المحروسة وكيف تعرضت الغوازي فى ذلك العصر للنفي من قبل الباشا محمد علي إلى ديار إسنا بصعيد مصر لتعاونهم مع الفرنسيين.
كما يتناول الخط الدرامي للرواية أدوار شيوخ وعلماء مصر في الحركة السياسية والاجتماعية حينئذ، ومواقف آخر فلول المماليك، والحملة الفرنسية وشبكة علاقاتها المعقدة والمتداخلة في النسيج المجتمعي المصري، وغيرها من الخيوط الكاشفة عن جانب تاريخي تختلط فيه الحقائق والأساطير والخرافات، وتجتمع فيه متناقضات الوفاء والخيانة للوطن المصاب باحتلال مُرَكَّب من مماليك إلى جراكسة إلى فرنسيين إلى إنجليز عند رشيد، ولا تقف التناقضات عند رموز المجتمع المصري من شيوخ وعلماء وتجار وأعيان وأرباب صنائع؛ بل تمتد إلى غوازي المحروسة وما يحمله عالمهم من غوايات وأسرار وأدوار ولغة لا يفهمها غيرهم.
حيث تأخذك الرواية في رحلة المنفى وخطابات الاستعطاف للجناب العالي وصولاً للنقطة الدرامية المفصلية حين يشترط الباشا محمد علي شرطاً مستحيلاً - وضع الكاتب فيه وفي صياغته تكثيفاً عالياً وجذباً لا ينتهي - وذلك للسماح لآخر غوازي مصر المحروسة بالرجوع إلى الديار السنية والحضرة البهية.
