إن أهم ضلع في العملية التعليمية هم المعلمون، والأمانة الملقاة على عواتقهم كبيرة؛ فما طريق المعلمين بلا صعوبات، ولا مهمتهم بيسيرة؛ فلقد تحملوا الأمانة وهي ثقيلة، واستحقوا الإرث وهو ذو تبعات، فإن الأمة ترجو أن يبنى بهم جيل قوي، شديد العزائم، سديد الآراء، متين العلم.
فيا معاشر المعلمين، إنكم عاملون فمسئولون عن أعمالكم، فمجزيون عنها من الله، ومن الأمة، ومن التاريخ، ومن الجيل الذي تقومون عليه ،ولكم من الله فضل جزيل، ومن التاريخ والأمة ثناء جميل.
من أهم ما تؤدى به رسالة التعليم أن يحرص المعلمون على تربية طلابهم على كريم الخلال وحميد الخصال، مع الحرص الشديد على تجنيبهم ما ينافي ذلك من مساوئ ؛ فإن لذلك الصنيع أبلغ الأثر في نفوس الطلاب.
يخطئ المعلم عندما يظن أن علاقته بالطالب، تقتصر على توصيل المعلومات فقط. والحقيقة أن هناك أمراً لا يقل أهمية عن التحصيل، ألا وهو النصح والتوجيه للطالب. فالمعلم موجه، ومربٍ، وناصح، وأب.
ولو أننا قارنا بين عدد الساعات التي يعيشها الطالب مع معلمه والتي قد تصل إلى خمس أو ست ساعات يومياً، لوجدنا أنها أكثر من عدد الساعات التي يلتزمها مع والديه، وهو معلوم عند الكل. وإذا كان الأمر كذلك، فإن المعلم يرى من الأحوال والتصرفات التي تصدر من الطالب والتي ربما تخفى على والديه، ولذا كان حري بك أيها المعلم أن تبذل ما في وسعك، لإصلاح المعوج، وتقويم المائل، وتهذيب الأخلاق، وتصحيح الأفكار.
ونحن نعرض هنا، بعض الصفات التي ينبغي للمعلم أن يتحلى بها، لكي يكون (معلمًا مثاليًا).
