إن الدعوة لتعليم الطفل التفكير ، ليست بالأمر الجديد، إلا أن الاهتمامات المتجددة بهذا الموضوع هي التي تفرض البحث المستمر فيه. و لعل ما يثير هذا الموضوع و يؤرق القائمين عليه نتائج تقويم الطلاب في المدارس و الجامعات، هذه النتائج التي صورت حالًا معتمًا ومخيّبًا للآمال في زوايا كثيرة مثل القراءة النقدية ، طرح البدائل الجديدة ، حل المشكلات التي تستلزم التمكن من المعرفة و المهارات ... و التأكيد هنا أن هذه المهارات لا بد من إرسائها في مقتبل الحياة ، إذ أن العقل يبدأ في التفتح في السنوات الأولى التي تترسخ فيها هوية الطفل كإنسان مفكر . العمل إذن على توعية الطفل بقدرته على التفكير و مبادئ إعمال العقل، و منحه الفرصة لقدح ذهنه وخطّ أفكاره وبلورتها في سطور . لا شك أن نهج المدرسة في رعاية هذه التوعية لهو نهج حاسم في تنمية التفكير .
