إنّ هذا الكتاب يحاول أن يقدِّم إجابات للأسئلة الضاغطة على العقل العربي، ويسعى إلى أن تكون تلك الإجابات إجابات أكثر منها أسئلة، إجابات شمولية تنبش الأرض وتستنطق الجذور وتحاور البدايات، علَّها تجد البذرة الأساسية والسبب الأول لما نحن فيه وما نحن عليه، وتسعى جاهدةً لربط النتائج بأسبابها والمآلات بمقدِّماتها، واضعةً نصب أعينها ألا تدع سؤالاً من دون جواب ولا شجرة من دون جذر.
أما أن تكون تلك الإجابات مخطئة أو مصيبة، فهذا شيء آخر يحتمل الأخذ والرد ويترك لتقدير القرّاء، علماً أن الدراسة حرصت قدر الإمكان على توخِّي الدقة والإصابة وعلى البحث عن الحقيقة، إلا أنها لا تدَّعي أنها قد توصّلت إلى الحقيقة والصواب، ففي النهاية ما هي إلا محاولة للفهم، فإن أصابت فذلك الأمل والطموح، وإن جانبها الصواب كثيراً أو قليلاً، فعذرها أنها جهد بشري يلحقها ما يلحق البشر من نقص وقصور.
الشيء الوحيد الذي تدَّعيه وتؤكّده وتضمنه هذه الدراسة ومن دون تردُّد، هو الإحترام الكامل لعقل القارئ.
