تعكس الحوارات في كتاب "لعبة السرد الخادعة" الذي أعدّه وقدّم له الكاتب والإعلامي الأردني جعفر العقيلي، جزءاً من مشروع الروائي إلياس فركوح التنظيري الذي يتوازى مع مشروعه الإبداعي. ويصف العقيلي تجربة فركوح قائلاً: "في الثمانينات، بدا إلياس وكأنما يولد قاصاً جديداً، كما يروي: قاصاً بات يرى في التفصيل الواحد حياة غير محدودة، ولا يعول على لحظة بعينها يعتقد أنها تظهر حقيقة الشيء أو يقينه، وكانت الحياة قبلاً لا تكتمل لديه إلا بحشد كم كبير من التفاصيل".
ويرى العقيلي أن الجدلية التي تتخذها الحوارات مع فركوح جعلت غالبية محاوريه هم من طبقة المبدعين الأردنيين والعرب، أمثال: عمر شبانة، هدية حسين، جمال زهران، إبراهيم جابر، حنيف يوسف، طلعت شناعة، محمد المشايخ، السيد حافظ، نضال محمود عودة، لهيب عبد الخالق، زياد أبو لبن، جميل حتمل، غسان عبدالخالق، زياد بركات، محمد سناجلة، جهاد هديب، علي السوداني، يحيى القيسي، تيسير النجار، عثمان حسن، وآخرين.
وتشكل هذه الحوارات بمجملها كما يرى العقيلي: "إضاءة كاشفة، بل وسابرة، للجوانب كافة في تجربة فركوح، وهي حوارات يخرج الكثير منها من فلك الذات المبدعة وهالتها باتجاه مدارات أخرى".
