تناولت الكاتبة مي زيادة في كتابها هذا حياة الشاعرة عائشة تيمور، وهي من طليعة شعراء عصرها، كما أنها تحدّثت عن عصر الشاعرة أيضًا إلى جانب حياتها الشخصيّة، مثلَ: النشأة والزواج، وبيئة الشاعرة واللغات الثلاث التي أجادتها، وتناولت أشعارها في الغزل والأخلاق والدين، وكتاباتها في النثر.
الشاعرة هي عائشة عصمت تيمور، بنت إسماعيل باشا تيمور. ولدت في مدينة القاهرة سنة ١٨٤٠م. بدى عليها النبوغ في سنٍّ مبكّرة، وآنس منها والدها حبّ تعلم القراءة والكتابة، فخصص لها أستاذين لتعلّم الخط والقرآن والفقه، و الصرف والنحو واللغة الفارسية.أتمت حفظ القرآن الكريم، وباشرت بمطالعة الكتب الأدبية، حتى نضجت لديها ملكة الأدب.
برعت تيمور في نظم الشعر، وتعلمت اللغة التركية، عن والدتها ووالدها. تزوجت الشاعرة من توفيق زاده، وعمرها أربعة عشر عامًا،كتبت ثلاثة دواوين باللغات العربية والتركية والفارسية، وألَّفت في النثر كتابين: «نتائج الأحوال» و«مرآة التأمل في الأمر».
توفيت الشاعرة عائشة تيمور في ٢ أيار سنة ،١٩٠٢ وقد كانت في سن الثانية والستين.
