تعتبر رواية "زنبقة الغور"، من الروايات التي ساهمت في إخراج أدبنا الروائي العربي من النمط التقليدي المتضمن للسجع والمقامات التقليدية، وأدخلته إلى عالمٍ عصري يواكب العصر الحديث وما فيه من تطورٍ في البناء الفني الحديث للرواية، حيث بدا واضحاً تأثر المؤلف بالاتجاه الخاص بالروائِيين الرومانتكيّين أمثال "دوماس"، و"هيغو"، حيث ظهر في الرواية تشابك الأحداث وتداخلها، واتساعها وتعقدها، حيث أن أحداثها كانت كثيرةً، ولم تنحصر في بلدٍ واحد، بل إن أحداثها كانت على مسرح العالم الكبير، حيث بدأت أحداث الرواية في مدينة الناصرة، ومن ثم في طبريا وحيفا، وفيما بعد انتقلت وتيرة الأحداث لتصبح في القاهرة وباريس، ومن ثم إلى لبنان، وبعدها إلى عكا، وعادت إلى الناصرة وبحيرة طبريا مرةً أخرى، أما الهيكل العام للرواية فكان عبارة عن أحداث مأساوية نتجت عن خضوع المرأة واستسلامها للرجل دون رابطة الزواج، وغدر الرجل بها وتخليه عنها، ومن ثم تشرد المرأة وطفلتها التي أنجبتها من هذه العلاقة في أنحاء الأرض، وكذلك حصل مع طفل ابنتها الذي جاء بنفس الطريقة، حيث تجسد الرواية العديد من الأبعاد الاجتماعية الجوهرية.
