" الملك النَّجار " هي واحدة من سلسلة حكايات الكاتب كامل كيلاني والتي هي عبارة عن قصص فكاهية علمية تربوية للأطفال بالتشكيل والتدقيق اللغوي تهدف إلى تعليمهم اللغة العربية من خلال القصة المسلية.
يكتب الكيلاني في مقدمة قصته هذه:
"أيها الصبي العزيز :
ترجمتُ لك هذه القصّة التمثيلية البارعة منذ خمسة عشرَ عاماً أو تزيد ،أي قبل مولدك بعامين أو ثلاثة،ثمَّ شغلتني عوادي الزمن ومشاغله الكثيرة عن تقديمها إليكفي حلّةٍ قّشيبَةٍ ،تهشُّ بها نفسك ويطرب لها فؤادك
وسترى فيها من العبر والعظات السامية ما يحفّزُ همتك إلى درك العظائم ،ويلهب في نفسِكَ حبَّ الوطن الذي ينوط بكَ أكبرَ الآمال،ويرتقِبُ منكَ أجلَّ الأعمال"
يحكي لنا الكيلاني هنا عن طريق مسرحية سلسة قصّة الملك "بطرس الأكبر" منشِىْ روسيا الحديثة الذي غادرَ إلى "هولندا" وعملَ في أحد مصانعها لمدّةِ عامٍ كامل ليتعلَّمً صناعةَ السفن.
فماذا خرجَ ذلك الملك من بلده ليتعلم كيف تُصنع السفن، وواجه أشياء لم يعرفها من قبل.
وهل سينجح الملك أن يصبح نجارًا؟ وماذا سوف يفعل عندما يعود لوطنه؟
