هذا الكتاب الذي تم جمعه بعد وفاة الكاتب جبران خليل جبران يضم عدد الرسائل وبرقية أرسلها جبران إلى مي زيادة عندما كان في نيويورك.
وسمي هذا الكتاب بالشعلة الزرقاء بعد أن ألهمت الرسالة الأخيرة جامع الكتاب لهذه التسمية، وقد كانت هذه الرسالة موجزة ومعبرة ورمزية، كما هو جبران عادةً، فهي كناية عن لوحة ليد مبسوطة تخرج منها شعلةٌ زرقاء كتب عليها "من جبران إلى ماري" وتم تأريخها بـ 26/ آذار/ 1931، مما يعني أنها آخر ما خطه جبران قبل وفاته بأسبوعين.
الحب الذي نشأ بين جبران خليل جبران ومي زيادة حب أفلاطوني نادر، لم يكن مثله عبر التاريخ، وبالأخص تاريخ الأدب، ولم يكن مثلهما أي عاشق. قصة حبٍ دامت قرابة العشرين عامًا، لم يلتقيا فيها إلا عبر الرسائل والكتب والصحف والفكر والروح، كانوا رفيقين في الخيال الضّبابي، فجبران في أمريكا غرب الكرة الأرضية، ومي في مصر شرقها،يبعدان عن بعضهما البعض سبعة آلاف ميل "البحار المنبسطة" كما يخبرنا جبران في إحدى رسائله.
هذا الكتاب لمحبي أدب الرسائل الذين يشعرون بالفضول لمعرفة عالم هذين الأديبين الكبيرين فقد ألقت هذه الرسائل الضوء على حياة هذين الكاتبين المبدعين وأفكارهما ومؤلّفاتهما، وعرفت العالم بهذه العلاقة العاطفية التي نشأت بينهما فقط عبر المراسلة خلال الثلث الأول من القرن العشرين.
