تعتبر "الريحانيات"، هي النخبة والصفوة من جميع ما قدّم الأديب الكبير أمين الريحاني من كتابات، وعلى الرغم من أن الريحانيات هي أول أعمال الكاتب، إلا أنها أثرت كثيراً في شخصيته، وجعلت منها شخصيةً أكثر نضجاً، ودفعت به نحو التقدم والأَمام، وبهذا نالت بجدارة شرف أن تحمل اسم كاتبها وأن تنتسبَ إليه، فالريحانيات تشكل بدايةً كبيرةً لكاتب، والجدير بالذكر أنها صدرت في مدة ثلاثة عشرة عاماً، حيث كتب فيها كلماته الشهيرة التي اتخذها شعاراً دائماً له وهو :"قل كلمتك وامشِ"، وقد ضمن أمين الريحاني في كتابه هذا مبادئه الاجتماعية، وآرائه الفلسفية، التي تركت أثراً واضحاً في جميع كتبه ومؤلفاته فيما بعد، والتي كانت دعوة صريحة من أمين الريحاني لترك العصبية الدينية، وقد أثارت "الريحانيات" الكثير من الجدل مع رجال الدين، وخصوصاً رجال الدين اليسوعيين، الذين أثاروا حوله الكثير من التهم، حيث قالوا عنه بأنه قد تخلى عن روح التسامح المسيحي، في المقابل أثنى عليه الكثير من رجال عصره أمثال إسماعيل صبري، الذي وصف الريحانيات بأنها من حسنات الآداب في هذا الزمن.
