هذا الكتاب للباحث والمفكّر عبد الوهاب عزّام، وتناول فيه حياة فريد الدين العطار، وهو شاعرٌ فارسي من أئمة شعراء التصوّف، يعد هو وسلفه مجد الدين سنائي، وخلفه جلال الدين الرومي أكبر شعراء الفرس المتصوّفين، وقد شاع ذكرهم وعظمت مكانتهم حتى كشفوا من جاء بعدهم من شعراء الصوفيّة العظماء، وقد قُرن هؤلاء الشعراء الثلاثة ببعضهم البعض على أنّهم أسبق شعراء التصوف زمانًا.
تناول عزّام نشأة وتطوّر التصوّف الإسلامي، وعلاقته بالأدب، ودوره في إثراء الحياة الأدبيّة، والأعلام من الشعراء، والعلماء المتصوّفين، ثمّ خصّ ببحثه الحديث عن حياة فريد العطّار، وتصوّفه، ومسلكه في التصوّف، والمكانة التي وصل إليها من بين روّاد هذا المذهب، وعبَّرَعن المذهب الصوفي تاريخيًّا، وفلسفيًّا، وعقديًّا، وتحدّث عن القضاء والقدر عند الصوفيّة.
تناول الطّريقة التي انتهجها العطّار في معرفة الله؛ حيث أعلى الوجدانَ على العقل؛ دون أن يُغْفِلُ العقل بقدر ما يجعله مرشدًا للوصول إلى طريق العشق الإلهي، الذي تتجلَّى صوره في إبداع الخالق لخَلْقِه.
