يعتبر كتاب "فنُّ الحرب" الكتاب الإستراتيجي الأهمُّ بلا منافس، إذ يحتوي على مجموعة من المبادئ العسكرية الصينية التي كُتبت قبل 2300 عام، إذ وضعها الفيلسوف الصيني سن تزو لضمان النصر العسكري بأقل التكاليف وأسرع الطرق، ويشتمل الكتاب على ستة آلاف جملة / مقطع، ضمن 13 باب / مقالة، تجسد الأفكار العسكرية للمؤلف، واحتوى كذلك على شرح وتعليق من كبار القادة العسكريين الصينيين الذين تلوا "سون تزو" ولعل ذيوع شهرة هذا الكتاب تعود كذلك إلى إمكانية تطبيق ما جاء فيه عالم الإقتصاد والتجارة والتسويق، وفي كل المجالات تقريباً.
اشتهر هذا الكتاب - أيضاً - بتأثيره على فكر نابليون بونابرت، والقادة العسكريين الألمان، وأخيراً على القادة العسكريين الأميركيين في أثناء تحرير الكويت في عام 1998، وغزو العراق عام 2003 من خلال ما سُمي "عاصفة الصحراء"، وتعتبر دول شرق آسيا هذا الكتاب جزءاً من إختبارات القبول في الكليات العسكريّة لديها، وكذلك هو جزء من مناهج الدراسة في العديد من الكليات العسكرية في الشرق الأوسط.
"فنَّ الحرب" كتاب من الصعب إختصاره في عبارات، فهو حالة إنسانية كاملة لا بدَّ ان تُقرأ سطورها بتأنٍ وحكمة وفهم، يتضمن أكثر من وجهة نظر، حتى أن البعض اعتبره كتاب عن "الحُبِّ والحياة والحرب"، والبعض الآخر اعتبره عن "فلسفة الحرب وإدارة الصراعات وكسب المعارك"، ولكن الاهم ما يراه "سون تزو"، "فإن قيمة فنُّ الحرب تتمثل في تجنّب الحرب من الأساس، والوصول إلى التسويات بغير حرب، وإخضاع العدو بِلا قتال".
