منذ أن وضعت يدي على المخطوطة القديمة، أحسست أن حياتي تغيرت رأسا على عقب، لكأن الأقدار أهدت إليَّ صدفة جميلة جعلتني أُحوِّل في فترة وجيزة الحزن الذي كان بي إلى فرحة كبيرة. من قبل، كلما تطلعت إلى السماء، كنتُ أجدها حزينة وملبدة بالضباب والظلمة. كنت لا أرى سوى المهالك والانكسارات، ولا أنفك حتى أخفض رأسي مهزومة وخائرة القوى.
أما الآن كلما رفعت وجهي إلى الأعالي، أشعر بدفء غريب يسري في أطرافي، وبعواطف غامضة تنتشر خلسة في أوصالي. صار بمقدوري أن أتأمل أشعة الشمس المنسدلة واحدا واحدا وأبقى كذلك ردحًا من الزمن، وعاد بإمكاني أن أملأ عينيَّ بالبريق المتوهج الذي يتسلل شيئا فشيئا إلى جسدي مثل خيط من نور. أغمض عيني وأتنفس حفنة من الهواء النقي ثم أفتحهما على المد الأزرق الذي لا ينتهي.
