حجاج أدول مفكر مصري من مواليد النوبة الإسكندرية 1944 وبدأ الكتابة الأدبية عام 1984، وهو صاحب كتاب لصحوة النوبية، وحصل على جائزة الدولة التشجيعية عام 1990 فرع القصة القصيرة عن مجموعة ليالي المسك العتيقة، وحصل على جائزة ساويرس للأدب المصري عام 2005 في الرواية والقصة القصيرة.
عمل بالسد العالي خمس سنوات، من عام 1963 حتى 1967.
وجند بالقوات المسلحة سبع سنوات من عام 1967 حتى 1974.
اشترك في حرب الاستنزاف وحرب أكتوبر 1973.
وحصل على منحة تفرغ من المجلس الأعلى للثقافة أعوام 96 و97 و98 لاستكمال رواية معتوق الخير، ثم حصل على منحة تفرغ عام 2002 و 2003 لكتابة رواية مملوكية خوند حَمْرة.

صحوت صباحًا. وخلال إمساكي بفنجان الشاي بالحليب وجلوسي على مقعدي الوثير المفضل، نظرت من خلال نافذة شرفتي العريضة، فوجدت أسدًا رابضًا خلف الزجاج مباشرة! الأسد ينظر إليَّ في لوم لأنني تأخرت ولم أصحُ باكرًا كما كان يأمل. ابتسمت فنظر بعيدًا وهو يتثاءب. أكملت احتساء الشاي والتهمت قطعة الكيك الطيبة. بعدها اقتربت من زجاج الشرفة. الأسد ينظر إليَّ منتظرًا ماذا سأفعل، هل سأُدخِله الشقة ليتجول فيها قليلاً، أم أتغافل عنه كما هي عادتي؟ لم أفتح له باب الشرفة. نظرت إلى الشرفات في العمارات المجاورة، وجدت ما توقعت: عددًا من الأسود واللبؤات متناثرة في عدد من الشرفات. منها الراقد ومنها من يقطع المسافة جيئة وذهابًا بين أسوار الشرفات وهو يزأر، ومنها الذي وقف على قائمتيه الأماميتين وبرأسه الكبير ينظر لأسفل. ومنها من جلس على حافة سور الشرفة، ينظر حوله وأسفل منه في هدوء القطط الصغيرة. ابتسمت وذهبت إلى حجرة مكتبي.
