تعتبر رواية "مذكرات من العالم السفلي" للروسي فيدور ديستويفسكي من أعمق وأبدع أعماله الأدبية وقد اعتبرها البعض أفضل أعماله بالفعل، وقد ترجمت إلى العربية في أكثر من ترجمة، فقد ترجمها الدكتور سامي الدروبي تحت عنوان: "في قبوي"، وترجمت مرة أخرى تحت اسم: "مذكرات قبو"، كما ترجمها أنيس زكي حسن بعنوان: "الإنسان الثرثار"، إلَّا أننا ننفرد بترجمة بديعة للأستاذ زغلول فهمي.
تعتبر رواية "مذكرات من العالم السفلي" أول الأعمال الروائية الوجودية، فالرواية تأتي على لسان إنسان بغيض ومكروه وبدون اسم، يحاول إزعاج قُرائه وهو يعمل موظفًا مدنيًّا في بطرسبورج ويسيطر على الرواية الطابع المونولوجي ولا سيما في القسم الأول منها، ومن خلال هذا القسم سنتعرف على الكاتب البطل وأفكاره ومعتقداته، هي رواية أقرب إلى المذكرات، إلا أنها موجعة ومن الصعب تكرارها.
