تعد أول رواية عربية تتناول موضوع الاستنارة والتأمل الذاتي العميق من خلال رحلة بطل الرواية الذي يبحث عن ذاته عندما يلتقي بامرأة مجهولة تقوده في دروب التأمل الوجودي وتتركه وحيدا أمام أسئلة الحياة ليحاول فهمها لوحده... إن الظل الأبيض هي رحلة نحو الاستنارة وفهم الوجود بمتناقضاته الكثيرة حيث يدخل بطل الرواية في أزمة أمام ضعفه وعدم قدرته على الاقتراب من المرأة التي أحبها لأنها متزوجة من رجل متنور وشاعر وهي تعشقه حد الجنون ولكن إبراهيم يحاول الارتقاء بذاته ليفوز بهذا الحب... وأضاف أنه لذلك يخضع نفسه لتمارين شاقة من الجلوس الطويل للتخلص من الخوف وتساعده المرأة على تجاوز العتبات الأولى لكن أحداث الرواية تتغير فيما بعد في تطور ملحمي غريب وتبدأ خطوط السرد بالتداخل فيما بينها ويختلط الواقعي بالسحري وتصبح القصيدة جزءا من تطور الأحداث ويدخل الموت باعتباره استمرارا ضروريا للحياة.
