يضم الكتاب (14) قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "بين يدي إنسان" ، "ضفة أخرى" ، "ثقب في القلب" ، "قضبان الطين" ، "سقوط" ، "لا أحد" ، "فرار" ... الخ.
"في صباحٍ مُشمسٍ دافئ كانت الأرض شهيّة ومُغرية للركض.. تسابقنا حتى ضفة النهر.. ألقينا بأقدامنا الصغيرة على حافة الماء ومددنا قامَتَيْنَا فوق سجادة العشب.. كانت خيالاتنا تلاحق الغيم المسافر وهو يمخر عباب الأفق.. تارة يتبدّى كحصانٍ جامح.. ومرة كشراع مركبٍ ورقيّ .. وأخرى كجناحيّ طائر.. أشرتَ إلى شجرةٍ فارعة الطول قد امتلأ صدرها ثمراً تأكل الطيرُ منه.. تملأ حواصلها الفارغة.. وتنخرط في غناءٍ صاخب.
كنت أتأمل المسافة الفاصلة بين سبّابتك وحشد العصافير الذي يشاغب سُكون الصباح وإذ بقبلةٍ صغيرة تنزلقُ على خدّي.. تسري في أوردتي كشهقةِ دهشة.. كان هواء النهار حينها يكنس بقايا البرد التي خلّفها الليل وراءه.. وضفة النهر توقع مراسيم ميلاد الحب الذي طبعته شفتاك على وجنتي، فاكتستْ بعده شفقاً أحمر.. لم أدرك لحظتها أن تلك الخفقة الخاطفة التي باغتت صدري سيكون لها صدق النبوءات التي يؤرخها الحب على جدران القلوب عندما ترتاد مزاراته".
