قبل تناول الأوضاع الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في لبنان من إيرفد وحصائلها إلى الأرحام التي ستلد ماكينزي وخططها، علينا التوضيح بأن مشكلة النظم الاقتصادية في العوالم تكمن في أمرين: الفقر، والـ (دوت كوم، dot-com). حيث تركّز الأولى، على تنامي الفروقات بين الدول ليصبح هناك عالم أوّل وعالم رابع، وبين البشر في الدولة الواحدة ليصبح هناك 5 في المئة تقريباً أو أقل من الناس يسيطرون على أكثر من 60 في المئة من مقدرات الدولة ومن الناتج العام. هذه القضايا ليست غريبة على أحد، بل تعاني منها المجتمعات والدول كافة، والأفراد داخل كل دولة، فنجد تدهوراً في شروط التبادل على صعيد الدول يرافقه تدهور في عدالة التوزيع داخل كل دولة. أما الثانية، فإنها هي التي أدخلت العالم في أتون الأزمات العالمية ، من حيث أنها غيّرت مفاهيم الاقتصاد الحقيقي، من اقتصاد إنتاجي إلى اقتصاد ريعي، ومن فائض وإدخار يدخلان في عملية الإنتاج إلى دخولهما في العملية الربوية، وبعبارة أدّق هو استبدال للاستثمار المباشر بالاستثمار غير المباشر. وفي محاربة هذين الأمرين تُلغى مفاعيل إيرفد وتنتفي حاجة الطلب من ماكينزي أو غيرها من (big 4) ، لطرح خططهم الاقتصادية، وتعديل السياسات الضريبية لما فيها التحفيز الاقتصادي والبناء الاجتماعي . فيمكن القول في هذا الصدد: إن النظام الحر اقتصادياً والطائفي سياسياً كان ولا يزال عاجزا عن إطلاق عملية تنمية اقتصادية اجتماعية حقيقية، وإن ما يمكن أن يتولّد في إطاره هو مجرّد نمّو مشوَّه ومشوِّه للبنية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، وعليه نجد في لبنان أن النظام الطائفي كان ولا يزال سيد الموقف، وأن النظام الحرّ ولبنان توأمان.
