الكتاب كما تعرفه منى فياض يبحث في ""انتروبولوجيا وسوسيولوجيا وسيكولوجيا الجسد"" وعلى هذا نقع في هذا الكتاب لغواية الجسد وأسراره ونزواته وتجلياته، وهو ما بحثت به الكاتبة عبر اقسامه الثلاثة: القسم الأول: تاريخ الجسد، القسم الثاني: الطيبون للطيبات، جنة الجسد ونعيمه، القسم الثالث: جسد متكائر.
وفي الكتاب انطلقت الكاتبة وكما تشير في المقدمة على أساس عدم الفصل بين النص الأسطوري عن الجسد وبين النصوص المعاصرة المختلفة الأنواع، أو بين ثقافة غريبة وأخرى شرقية. وتعاملت مع الجسد كمعطى انتربولوجي ونفسي وسوسيولوجي يأخذ التقسيمات الشائعة بين غرب/ شرق أو بين اسطورة/ حقيقة أو بين متخيل/ واقعي، بعين الاعتبار ولكنه يحاول أن يتخطاها.
ما يميز هذه الطبعة عن النسخة القديمة للكتاب أن الكاتبة أضافت عليها قسم جديد يتعلق بالجسد في الثقافة الاسلامية، إضافة إلى فصل جديد عن الجسد في الثورات العربية وآخر عن الذوق تجاوباً مع التساؤلات العديدة حول غياب حاسة الذوق عن الطبعة السابقة لهذا الكتاب؟ هذا ما عدا عن بعض الاضافات المتفرقة هنا وهناك.
