شهدت الفترة الانتقالية في أواخر عصر البرونز الحديث تبدلات كثيرة في منطقة الشرق. فظهرت قوى جديدة استطاعت أن تغير خارطة المنطقة، منها قدوم شعوب البحر الآتية من بحر ايجة، وما كانت تتمتع به من قوى فقد أحدثت نتائج تدميرية فظيعة على الساحل الكنعاني. نذكر منها تدمير مملكة أوغاريت وما ألحقوا خراباً بالمدن وتدمير اقتصادها وسيطرة الرعب على دول منطقة شرق المتوسط. يلي ذلك صراعات الآشوريين مع المصريين والتي كان الساحل الفينيقي ممراً لها، مما أدى ذلك الى ضعف في قوة مصر الاقتصادية وضعف سيطرتها على البحار.
وتلا ذلك انهيار الإمبراطورية الحثية ونشوء الممالك الحثية الجديدة وصراعاتها الداخلية جراء الانقسامات الكبيرة. ونذكر أيضاً ظهور الآراميين وإنشاء الممالك الآرامية وصراع هذه الممالك مع الاشوريين. ولا ننسى ظهور مملكة إسرائيل وصراعها مع الآراميين.
إنّ جغرافية الوطن الفينيقي الممتد على الساحل الكنعاني على صورة شريط ضيق بين البحر من الغرب والصحراء من الشرق، إنّما أصبح بمثابة جسر يعبره الغزاة القادمون من بلاد ما بين النهرين قبل نزولهم وادي النيل. كما تعبرها الجيوش المصرية القادمة من الوادي، يتعقبون الغزاة وهم في طريق فرارهم بعد دفعهم عن حدود مصر.
