تقع أنقاض قره تييه الأثرية في الشمال الشرقي من سهل أدنه، في تركيا، على 130 كتراً فوق رافد أيمن لنهر جيحون، وتمتد تقريباً على 80 ألف متر مربع، في شكل بيضاوي طوله 430م شمالاً جنوباً وعرضه 190م شرقاً غرباً.
أول من تنبه إلى أهمية هذا التل أحد المعلمين الأتراك، أكرم خوجه، فلفت إليه أنظار الأثريين هلموت ت.بوسيرت، وهـ جمبل، فانتقلا إليه سنة 1946 وقد انضم إليهما أو. بهادر ألكيم، وباشروا التنقيب بتكليف من معهد الأبحاث الشرقية التابع لكلية الآداب في جامعة اسطنبول، وباشتراك المديرية العامة للمتاحف التركية وتابعوا العمل في السنة التالية، 1947، وما يليها.
كشفت الحفريات عن سور بيضاوي منيع، تتراوح سماكته بين المترين والأربعة أمتار، تعززه أبراج مربعة يبعد الواحد عن الآخر سبعة إلى عشرة أمتار، ويبرز عن خط السور أربعة أو خمسة أمتار. يفتح السور مدخلان رئيسيان، أولهما، وهو الأسفل، إلى الشمال الشرقي، وثانيهما، وهو الأعلى، إلى الجنوب الغربي.
تحازي السور، في الشمال الشرقي، طريق صاعدة مرصوفة، تمر بين برحين حتى المدخل، حيث تصل، بين أسدين، إلى مجاز تحيط به، من كل جانب، صفائح أو لوحات من البازلت منصوبة عمودياً، نقش بعضها أشكالاً ومشاهد منوعة، ورقم البعض الآخر رموزاً حثية واحرفاً فنيقية. ويؤدي هذا المجال إلى باب تحرسه نقوش أبي الهول، فينفرج عن بناء ذي جناحين تزينه كذلك الصفائح المنصوبة.
وفي هذا الكتاب قراءة للنصوص الفينيقية في هذا الموقع الأثري مع شرح لبعض النصوص المكتوبة على العواميد المتواجدة هناك.
