شهدت السنوات الأخيرة زيادة في عدد الطلبة المعاقين الملتحقين بالجامعة مما يستلزم المزيد من الخدمات المقدمة لهم حتى يستطيعوا التكيف والاندماج مع الحياة الجامعية. ولكن نظرًا لعدم توفر هذه الخدمات بالقدر الكافي الأمر الذى أدى إلى ظهور العديد من التحديات والعقبات التي زادت من صعوبة حياة المعاق في الجامعة كالتحديات الاجتماعية والنفسية والاكاديمية وغيرها من التحديات التي كانت بمثابة إعاقة ثانية على إعاقته الأصلية والتي وقفت كحجر عثرة أمام توافقه وتكيفه مع نفسه وأسرته ومجتمعه.
