هذا الكتيب الصغير مقدمة لمشروع فلسفى نهضوى كبير. يعبر عن هموم الفكر والوطن، ويحمل ثقل التاريخ. وهو تجربة عمر طويل يزيد على خمسين عاما. يحاول أن يعيد بناء التراث القديم طبقا لظروف العصر. لا يستعمل مناهج المستشرقين التاريخية والتحليلية والأثر والتأثر والإسقاطية، ولا مناهج المستعربين الخطابية والجدلية والوعظية والحدسية. بل يستعمل منهج تحليل الخبرات الشعورية لفهم النص وفهم الواقع على حد سواء. ويعيد بناء العلوم القديمة ويحولها إلى أيديولوجيا معاصرة، العقيدة إلى ثورة، والفلسفة إلى إبداع، والتصوف من الفناء إلى البقاء. ويعطى الأولوية فى أصول الفقه إلى الواقع على النص. ويحول العلوم النقلية: القرآن، والحديث، والتفسير، والسيرة، والفقه إلى علوم عقلية. وفى نفس الوقت يؤسس علم "الاستغراب" الذى يتحول فيه الغرب إلى موضوع للدراسة بدلا من أن يكون دارسا. ويتحول فيه العربى إلى دارس والغرب مدروسا. وأخيرا يقدم تفسيرا موضوعيا للقرآن الكريم يقوم على تجميع الآيات فى موضوع واحد وبناء نسق فكرى يقوم على الجسم والإدراك الحسى، والمعرفة العقلية والإحساس بالزمان، والعواطف والانفعالات، والاعتقاديات والأخلاقيات، والمقاصد والأفعال، والوعى الطبيعى، والوعى التاريخى. وبعد أن شرح ابن خلدون أسباب الانهيار يبين هذا الكتيب شروط النهضة.
