طوال الرواية نشعر بكل ما يشعر به ذلك الديوان، وصوته الذي ينسينا أن الراوي مجرد ديوان شعر وليس إنسانًا. ديوان يحلم بلقاء محبوبته يومًا ما. ""ليلى""، التي صنعته بيديها في بابل.. و""روكال"" التي رسم دمها على غلافه وردة حمراء أبدية.
تلك الرواية هي تسجيل لقصة حب غير مسبوقة، يرويها ديوان شعر وخلفيتها تاريخ إمبراطورية من أعظم الإمبراطوريات التي حكمت العالم أجمع.. الإمبراطورية العثمانية.
