لم يحصل أسوةً بأشقّائه على جنسية البلد الذي لم يعرف غيره نظراً إلى التغيّر المفاجئ في قانون الأحوال المدنية، فيتّسع الفرق بينه وبين جميع أفراد أسرته حتّى يغدو هوّةً عميقةً لا حدّ لها ولا حصر.
ويلفي نفسه منذ الطفولة شريداً داخل مدينته، ثمّ تتوالد من تلك المحنة سلسلة تكاد لا تنتهي من المحن، تلقي بظلالها على حياته، وتتعاظم غربته الروحية بغربة أخرى، جغرافية، عندما تقع تسوية الجبل، حيث نشأ، بالأرض فيفقد بذلك آخرَ إثَرِ لذاكرته ووجوده.
وهكذا يغدو النبذ الإحتمال الوحيد في دائرة الإحتمالات المُغلقة.
"لماذا أنا؟" يصرخ وهو يتدبر النزائل التي تحاصره فيباغته شعور بالحاجة إلى "الركض بأقدام روحه"، شعور بالحاجة إلى الكتابة فيخاتل النصوص قبل أن يهرب منها ويحرقها ثم يخلقها مجدداً من رماد الإحتراق.
يقول سعيد عقل: "إنّ الصراخ يقتل الأدب"، ولكنّ عبد الله ناجي صرخ ولم يقتل الأدب لأنّه لم يجنح بالرواية إلى لغة خطابيّة تقريريّة، بل جعل شخصيّاته تتكفّل بتمرير تلك الفترة عبر دوّامة من الأحداث تُفضي إلى نهاية واحدة، هي "النبذ"، وذلك هو الفرق بين المعلم والأديب.
