مجاهد بن جبر (21-104هـ، 642-722م).
مجاهد بن جبر أبو الحجاج، المكي، المخزومي. شيخ القراء والمفسرين. إمام، ثقة، فقيه، عالم، كثير الحديث، برع في التفسير وقراءة القرآن والحديث. روى عن ابن عباس فأكثر، وعنه أخذ القرآن والتفسير والفقه. كما روى عن أبي هريرة وعائشة وسعد بن أبي وقاص وعبدا لله بن عمر وجابر بن عبدا لله وأبي سعيد الخدري. وقد عرض القرآن على ابن عباس ثلاث مرات يقف عند كل آية يسأله، فيم نزلت؟ وكيف كانت؟.
قرأ عليه القرآن ثلاثة من أئمة القراءات، ابن كثير المكي، وأبو عمرو بن العلاء البصري وابن محيصن. وحدّث عنه عكرمة وطاووس وعطاء، وهم أقرانه، وعمرو ابن دينار وسليمان الأعمش وجماعة.
كان ابن جبر لا يسمع بأعجوبة إلا ذهب فنظر إليها، ذهب إلى بئر برهوت بحضرموت، وذهب إلى بابل يبحث عن هاروت وماروت. له كتاب في التفسير يرى بعض المفسّرين أنه كان يسأل أهل الكتاب ويقيد فيه ما يأخذه عنهم. وكان أعلم الناس بالقرآن، حتى قال الثوري خذوا التفسير من أربعة: مجاهد وسعيد بن جبير وعكرمة والضحاك.
