روايةُ تسعى لمعاينة وكشف المسكوت عنه فى عالم الريف، تدخل وراء الأبواب المغلقة، عبر كاميرا السارد الذى يرصد العلاقة بين عربى وعفاف زوجة أخيه ــــــ وللأسماء هنا دلالتها التى يمكن أن تكون موضوعًا لقراءة مستقلة بذاتها ــــ عبر مثلث الزوج الزوجة العشيق؛ هكذا يفكك السارد تلك الصورة الذهنية القارة فى عمق الوعى الثقافى عن الريف، التى تعتبر الريفَ منبعَ الشرف والعفة، لكن السارد هنا يعرى عفاف القرية كاشفًا عن نهمها الجنسى، كما يفضح فكرة التماسك العائلى الرائجة عن الريف.
لعل أكثر ما يُلفت النظرَ فى هذه الرواية، هو الألاعيب السردية التى يعتمدها السارد، والتى تجعل هذا النص يتمايز ــــ مثلًا ـــ عن نصوص يوسف إدريس، التى كانت تتعاطى مع عالم الريف فاضحة أيضا عفافه المزعوم؛ فإذا كانت القرية التى يعاينها أبو عيشة تتشابه مع قرية إدريس؛ فإن لغة جديدة وسردًا جديدًا، يختطهما المؤلف فى نصنا هذا، فثمة لغة مختالة بذاتها.
