"شوق" هي الرواية الأولى لمؤلفها خليل أبوشادي، ولن يفاجئ القارئ بإحكام البناء الفني وقوة الخيال فحسب، ولكن كذلك بتوغله في العالم النفسي لبطله وعوالم مخفية في القاهرة الحديثة، تتحرك أحداث الرواية من أطراف القاهرة العشوائية إلى مركز المدينة بصحافييه وسياسييه لتكشف الفقر وتعري الفساد ولكن بصورة فنية بدون خطابة أو استعارة من فن المقال الصحفي، تسرد الرواية حياة بطل يكافح ثقل الماضي الذي يعيق خروج أنفاسه وتخلق مستقبله، ويحكي العمل كيف ينمو البطل وتنمو عقده من خلال طفولة يختلط فيها القهر بالتمرد عليه، وعبر محاولات البطل لمواجهة هواجسه الجنسية وحياة يعقدها الفقر تتطور أحداث الرواية عابرة لعالم الجامعة الذي تشرق فيه التجارب العاطفية الأولى ويقترب فيه البطل من عالم السياسة وهما الأمران اللذان يحكمان تطور حياته وتطور العمل حتى ذروته الفنية.
