"هذا الكتاب:
هو ثمرة رحلات قام بها أمير الرحالة المسلمين بن بطوطة، بدءاً من هجرية تنقل في كل البلاد العربية والإسلامية، قرابة الثلاثين 725عام عاما بعيون مفتوحة وعقل واع، والتقى بأناسها وشيوخها وأمرائها وسلاطينها، وسجل حالها وحال أهلها.
هجرية وراح يحكي عما رآه وما سمعه 756وحين عاد إلى المغرب فى عام طلب منه الملك أن يملي كل شئ على كاتبه إبن جزي الكلبي، وكان أن خرج إلينا كتابه تحفة الأنظار في غرائب الأمصار وعجائب الأمصار، الذى عرف فيما بعد برحلات إبن بطوطة.
وقد عرف الغرب هذا الكتاب، واعتبره موسوعة وافية عن بلاد الشرق، ميلادية.1853وترجم إلى الفرنسية ونشر هناك في أربعة مجلدات سنة هـ، جاء الكاتب المصري شهاب سلطان، ليرافق إبن بطوطة 1438وفي عام في رحلة خيالية، يسير معه في نفس دربه الذى سار فيه منذ ما يقرب عام، يرى معه ما رآه، ويسمع ما سمع، لعيد كتابتها بأسلوبه 700من السهل الذي يناسب كل الأعمار."
