"فى العقدين الأخيرين ، حدث تقدم مذهل فى الدراسات الجينية وأصبح من الممكن عمل خريطة جينية Genetic Map لكل إنسان توضح ماهية إستعداده الوراثي للإصابة بمختلف الأمراض العضوية والنفسية من سرطان إلى أمراض السكر والقلب وحتى الإكتئاب والصرع وغيره. مع الأخذ فى الإعتبار أن الخريطية الجينية توضح فقط الإستعداد الوراثى Genetic Predisposition ، وهناك عوامل كثيرة متداخلة يأتي على رأسها الظروف البيئية والضغوط العصبية والنفسية وغيرها، تكون هى المسئولة عن ظهور الإصابة فى بعض وليس كل الأفراد المتماثلين فى الإستعداد الوراثي.
ويجب دائماً النظر للمريض كوحدة متكاملة وتفسير الأعراض التى يعانى منها تفسيراً دقيقاً واضحاً، وليس فقط التعامل مع هذه الأعراض دوائياً. أى لابد من التبصر فى الناحية الجسمانية (العضوية) لكل مريض يعانى من إضطرابات نفسية المنشأ. أى لانكتفى بإعطاء الطفل خافض حرارة مثلاً، وإنما يجب التبصر فى أسباب إرتفاع درجة الحرارة كأساس للعلاج. فضلاً عن ذلك فهناك مجموعة من الأمراض يُطلق عليها الإضطرابات النفس عضوية Psychosomatic disorders وفيها يأتى المريض بشكوى تبدو عضوية تماماً، ويكون المرض النفسي هو السبب الرئيسي. بالإضافة إلى مجموعة أخرى من الأمراض تتأثر فيها الحالة العضوية بوضوح سلباً وإيجاباً بحالة المريض النفسية.
وتشير أغلب نظريات التحليل النفسي أن كثيراً من المشاكل النفسية التى يصادفها البالغون تكون نتيجة لتراكمات حدثت أثناء الطفولة. ومع عدم إهمال أهمية التاريخ المرضى Past History فى تشخيص جميع الأمراض النفسية والعضوية، ومع التسليم الجزئي بصحة هذه النظريات كتفسير للمشاكل والإضطرابات النفسية التى يعانيها الإنسان وأنها حدثت نتيجة لسبب أو آخر فى فترة الطفولة؛ يلزم التبصر في أمرين: الأول كيفية علاج هذه الإضطرابات فى وضعها الحالي، لأن الحياة لايمكن عكسها ومن المستحيل إعادة المرء لمرحلة الطفولة ثانيةً لتجنب نشوء هذه المشكلات؛ والثاني ضرورة التعامل مع المشكلات والإضطرابات السلوكية فى الأطفال تعاملاً سليماً وليس مجرد إعطاء حلول مُسْكنة لمشاكلهم التربوية والنفسية أى مجرد خافض حرارة .
