ثم ما لبث أن خرج نعمان حاملاً بندقيته على ظهره ،ومضى نحو بيت المرأة العجوز ، وحين وقف عند إحدى الأشجار الباسقة والمتلاصقة من بيتها، راح ينظر في كل اتجاه لعله يظفر برؤية الذئب ولكن لا وجود له،فخطرت على باله فكرة قد تمكنه من قتل الذئب اللعين وهو أن يدخل الزريبة ويندس بين تلك الدجاجات، فإن دخل عليه قتله ، فدخل الزريبة،وجلس في زاوية قريبة من الدجاجات، وكان المكان حالكاً حيث لا يرى فيه شيئاً، فجلس نعمان لساعة ينتظر فيها قدوم الذئب، وفجأةً سمع وقع أقدام تتجه نحو الزريبة، فوجه بندقيته نحو باب الزريبة،فإن كان الآتي هو الذئب صوب نحوه وقتله، انتظر نعمان لحظات عاش خلالها في خوف، فإنه لا يدري مدى نجاحه في قتل الذئب فقد تخطئ بندقيته في إصابته، وينتقم منه الذئب وينهشه ، فارتعد نعمان، وبدأت يده ترتجف، إنه بلا ريب خائف من هذه المواجهة التي لا يعرف عما تسفر عنه، فدنا مخلوق من الزريبة،فهمس نعمان وهو مصوب ببندقيته نحو مصدر وقع الأقدام : تعال أيها الذئب تعال فإني انتظرقدومك.
