Book Description
بداية النشاطات الثقافية والرياضية بمنطقة القطيف كانت في بداية الخمسينات منالقرن الماضي، إذ تجمعت نخبة من المثقفين بالقطيف، وفيهم شعراء وأدباء وكتّاب قاموا بمحاولة بث الوعي بين المجتمعات، ومحاربة الأمية حسب المتاح، فأنشأوا مكتبة أهلية عامة في مبنى قديم قرب (الجبلة) التي كانت سوقاً للأغنام والإبل.
كما وأنشؤوا كذلك مدرسة مسائية لمكافحة الأميّة ليلاً، ومقرها المدرسة الرسمية المسماة ب(مدرسة البحر)، ثم سمّيت مدرسة الحسين، وهي أوّل مدرسة ابتدائية حكومية بنيت على حساب مديرية المعارف قبل أن تكون وزارة، وكان المدير العام لمدارس المنظقة الشرقية هو عبد العزيز التركي. وكان صديقاً حميماً لنخبة من المثقفين بالقطيف وخصوصاً حسن صالح الجشي.
أما المساهمون في صندوق تمويل المكتبة الأهلية المذكورة والمدرسة المسائية الأهلية غالبيتهم من عمال شركة أرامكو وموظفي الدولة، وأمين الصندوق هو الكاتب المعروف سيد علي العوامي، وهو من أنشط مثقفي منطقة القطيف في حركة التوعوية والثقافية.
إلا أنّ هذه النشاطات النهوضية الاجتماعية لم تعمر طويلاً ربما لا تتجاوز خمس سنوات أو أقلّ، حيث القدر كان لها بالمرصاد، إذ وئد هذا الوليد عندما أدخل عدد من هؤلاء المؤسسين لهذه النشاطات الثقافية والاجتماعية (سجن العبيد بالأحساء).
