آنا سويل: رِوائيةٌ إنجليزيةٌ وُلِدتْ عامَ ١٨٢٠م. تلقَّتْ تَعليمًا جيدًا في البيتِ على يدِ أمِّها، التي كانتْ تُجِيدُ الكتابةَ للأطفال. في عُمرِ الرابعةَ عشرةَ أُصِيبَ كاحِلُها إصابةً خطيرةً منعَتْها مِنَ المَشْي، وظلَّتْ بقيةَ حياتِها تَعتمدُ في انتقالاتِها على عَربةٍ يَجرُّها حِصان، ممَّا عمَّقَ صِلتَها بالخُيول. بينَ عامَيْ ١٨٧١م و١٨٧٧م كتبَتْ مخطوطةَ رِوايتِها الوحيدةِ «الجَمال الأَسْود». كانَتِ الروايةُ في الأصلِ مُوجَّهةً للكبارِ ممَّن يَتعامَلُون معَ الخيولِ لحضِّهم على حُسْنِ مُعامَلتِها، لكنَّها أصبحتْ من أَشْهرِ رِواياتِ الأَطْفال. تُوفِّيتْ «سويل» في أبريل عامَ١٨٧٨م بعدَ خمسةِ أشهرٍ من نشْرِ رِوايتِها.

رواية نشرت عام 1877 للكاتبة الانجليزي آنا سويل. كانت قد ألفتها في السنوات الأخيرة من حياتها، حيث بقيت في منزلها بسبب الإعاقة. أصبحت الرواية بشكل فوري أفضل الكتب مبيعا، وتوفيت سويل بعد خمسة أشهر من تاريخ نشرها. بيعت منها خمسين مليون نسخة، وتعتبر رواية الجمال الأسود احد أكثر الكتب مبيعا على مر العصور.
