في هذا الكتاب سنتناول كل ما يتعلق بهذا الفيلسوف الكبير نشأته فلسفته ، وموقع الإنسان منها ، وتأثره بالفلسفة اليونانية ، خاصة أفلاطون وأرسطو ، موقفه من المدينة الفاضلة لأفلاطون ، وكيف وضع هو مدينته الفاضلة ، وأهم نظرياته الفلسفية في السياسة والحكم المدني ، والمعرفة ، والأخلاق ، والعقلانية ، والحقيقة ، والفن ، ونظرية الفيض ، التي جعلته في مرمى نيران بعض الفلاسفة على رأسهم أبو حامد الغزالي . كما سنتعرف من خلال فصول الكتاب على أهم وأشهر مؤلفات الفارابي ، ككتابه "آراء أهل المدينة الفاضلة ومضاداتها" ، وكتابه " السياسة المدنية " الذي يشتمل على شتى علوم الفلسفة من طبيعيات ونفسانيات وأخلاقيات واجتماعيات ، وكيف عالج فيه قضايا مهمة منها العقل الفعال ، والنفس ، والصورة ، والمادة والأجسام السماوية ، والأجسام الأرضية ، والاجتماعيات البشرية المختلفة ، وكتابه " إحصاء العلوم "، الذي يحصى فيه العلوم المعروفة في عصره ، عندما بلغت الحضارة العربية أوج نضجها وازدهارها وكتابه " الجمع بين رأيي الحكيمين " ، حيث حاول التوفيق بين أفلاطون وأرسطو من ناحية ، وبين آراء هذين الحكيمين اليونانيين وتعاليم الإسلام من ناحية أخرى .كما سنتعرف من خلال فصول هذا الكتاب أيضا على كتاب الفارابي " تحصيل السعادة " ، وكتب أخرى مهمة لهذا الفيلسوف الكبير
