على طريقة تقارير الشرطة: الساعة 2:59 بعد الظهر، في التاسع من مارس، كنت أسير غرب شارع ويلبراهام كريسنت، وكانت تلك زيارتي الأولى، وبصراحة أصابني هذا الشارع بالحيرة.
كنت أتبع حدسًا ما مع إصرار يزداد عنادًا يومًا بعد يوم بينما كانت احتمالية تحقق هذا الحدس تقل تدريجيًّا، هكذا كانت حالتي.
كان الرقم الذي أبحث عنه 61، لكن هل استطعتُ العثور عليه؟ لا، لم أستطع، فبعد أن تبعت بمثابرة الأرقام من 1 إلى 35، بدا لي أن شارع ويلبراهام كريسنت قد انتهى، وهناك اعترض طريقي شارع به لافتة مكتوب عليها بوضوح شارع ألباني، فالتفت عائدًا، فلم تكن هناك بيوت على الجانب الشمالي، بل جدار فقط، وخلف الحائط كانت هناك تجمعات سكنية من شقق حديثة تشق عنان السماء، وكان من الواضح أن مدخلها في طريق آخر، ولم تكن هناك أية سبل للمساعدة.
نظرت إلى الأرقام التي كنت أمر بها. 24، 23، 22، 21. ديانا لودج (من المفترض أن يكون 19، وكان يجلس على عمود بوابته قط برتقالي اللون يعبث بوجهه)، 19 -
انفتح باب المنزل رقم 19، وخرجت منه فتاة وانطلقت على الممر بسرعة صاروخية، وتعزز الشبه بينها وبين الصاروخ بالصراخ الذي صاحب ركضها. كان صراخها عاليًا وحادًّا وغير مألوف. خرجت الفتاة من البوابة واصطدمت بي بقوة حتى كادت تسقطني على الرصيف. لم تصطدم الفتاة بي وحسب، بل تشبثت بي تشبثًا يوحي بأنها مرعوبة ويائسة.
