تؤرّخ الكاتبة الفلسطينية المقيمة في بيروت جين سعيد مقدسي لتجربة العنف والدمار واللاإنسانية اليومية التي صنعت الحياة في بيروت زمن الحرب. وتكتب شهادتها عن المعاناة اليومية للمدنيين الأبرياء، وتنطق بلسان جيل من الشباب الذين ولدوا في الحروب ولم يعهدوا في حياتهم غيرها. تنسج هذه القصة مع سرد يتداخل وهجرتها الخاصة إلى القدس والقاهرة والولايات المتحدة وأخيراً بيروت. وتلقي الضوء على العلاقات المهمة المتداخلة التي تظهر الأحداث في بيروت كجزء من شبكة السياسة والتاريخ.
