ما يلفت في كتاب سيرل أيدون "فضولية العلم" طريقته في الكتابة، التي تشبه "النص المترابط" الإلكتروني للكومبيوتر والإنترنت. وإذ يقدم استعراضاً بانورامياً عن ألفي سنة من الاكتشافات العلمية، من مهوده الأولى في الصين والهند وبلاد الإسلام ومروراً بعصر النهضة وظهور العلم الحديث ومكتشفاته، فإنه لا يسير بالطريقة التقليدية. لا يكتب ذلك التاريخ من البداية في الماضي ووصولاً إلى الحاضر، بل إنه لا يتبع تبويباً تقليدياً. ولا يتوزع الكتاب على أقسام وفصول. يكتب أو يدون تاريخ العلم فيوزعه إلى كمية كبيرة من المعلومات المستقلة. إنه كتاب التاريخ بالمعلومة. ويشرح معلوماته بطريقة سهلة، بحيث لا يفترض أن القارئ لديه معلومات مسبقة عنها.
كما يحرص على جعل المعلومة "صغيرة" ومستقلة، لكي يهضمها القارئ من دون أن يضطر إلى قراءة ما قبلها أو متابعة ما بعدها.
وهكذا، يتحول تاريخ العلم إلى شرح لمفاهيم أساسية في العلم، تعطي القارئ فرصة للتملك من اللغة الرائجة في الحديث عن العلوم. وبذا، يبسط المعلومات الأساسية التي تمكن من فك "شيفرة" وأخبار العلم ونصوصه.
واستطراداً، فلربما شكل الكتاب حدثاً ثقافياً بالنسبة للعالم العربي باعتباره نموذجاً أول بلغة الضاد عن هذه الطريقة في الكتابة. كما يطرح تحدياً على النظام التعليمي العربي بأن يتغير من اعتماده تقليدياً على حفظ المعلومات، إلى نظام يهتم بشحذ الأذهان للتعامل مع المعلومات وفهم مدلولاتها والتفاعل معها.
كما يعطي للمربين العربي نموذجاً غير مألوف، بالنسبة لما يمكن أن يصير إليه تدريس العلوم، خصوصاً في المدارس والثانويات، في ظل ثورة المعلوماتية. وإذ جعل الكومبيوتر مسألتي الوصول إلى المعلومة وتوافرها خلف ظهر النظام التعليمي، فقد بات ملحاً أن يتغير ذلك النظام لكي يعطي اهتمامه إلى فهم المعلومات والتفاعل معها أولاً. وعلى رغم ذلك (أو ربما بسببه)، فإن التسلية والإمتاع هما أسلوب عرض الحقائق العلمية التي يعالجها هذا الكتاب.
