في مجموعته القصصية "صانع الدمى" يتبنى الروائي حمزة بوقري خطاباً تقليدياً على مستوى السرد واللغة، ولكنه غير تقليدي على مستوى البنية الروائية، فالحكايا لا تتسلسل حوادثها زمنياً، ولا تنمو ويتولد بعضها من بعض، بل تختار حوادث معينة وقعت في أماكن مختلفة متخيلة وواقعية لتقول ما يريد. والحكايا ليس فيها حديث يبدأ وينمو ويتطور كما هي الحال في الروايات التقليدية، بل تبدو كشريط سينمائي أعمل فيه المونتاج عمله، وهو ينتقل من مكان الى آخر، ومن زمن الى آخر، فمرة يجد القارئ قصة أحداثها تدور في لندن، ومرة أخرى يجد نفسه أمام قصة من غابر الزمن كالقصة التي عنون بها المؤلف المجموعة "صانع الدمى" فالروائي الأكثر حضوراً فيها هو المؤلف يليه الراوي العليم الذي يشكل إطاراً لرواية الشيخ نماس، وبقراءة اسم هذه الشخصية يتبدى بوضوح إحالته الى الحقل الغيبي/ الخرافي، فالشيخ نماس سكن قرية المسافر، واشتهر بكثرة تحلّق الأطفال حوله، كانوا يحبونه لأنه كان يغدق عليهم الهدايا والحلويات، وكان يصنع الدمى الصغيرة. دمية على شكل قطة أو كلب أو عصفور، أو دمية على شكل صبي صغير أو بنت فيحبه الأطفال لذلك ويتحلقون حوله كل مساء... ومع مرور الزمن، انتقل العم نماس الى العيش خارج القرية، وأشيع أنه يسكن كوخاً يقع على طرف القرية القريب من الوادي حتى اختفى نهائياً، ولكن ما قصة هذا الرجل؟ وما قصى دماه السحرية التي قد تقتل أحياناً كالدمية "سارة" التي قتلت والد أمين عندما كان الشاب صغيراً، ولماذا تحلّ لعنة الدمى على الناس، هذا ما سنعرفه عند الانتهاء من قراءة الحكاية...
