في عملها الروائي الأول "بوركيني" تختبىء الكاتبة اللبنانية مايا الحاج تحت قشرة الحكي، مُشبعة بجوّ الحدث، لا تُهملُ التفاصيل، ولا تُشجب الشخصيات، ولا تُنضب الذاكرة، وهي تفعل ذلك من خلال بطلة الرواية، الرسامة الشابة والمثقفة والمحجبة، التي تكتشف عبر لوحاتها جمال الجسد بعد حجته، لتجد نفسها في وضع مأزوم بين ايديولوجيتين متباعدتين في النظرة إلى المرأة وجسدها ومن هنا جاء عنوان الرواية المشتق من "برقع" و"بيكيني".
وهكذا ندخل في النص مثل دخولنا في أرض سحرية تستدرجنا مايا فهنا تحضر المرأة بأنوثتها وجمالها الرصين، وكأنما الكاتبة تلعب لعبة الانعكاس في المرأة، يطلع الصميمي الحميم من وراء حجاب تارة، ومن وراء لوحة فنية تارة أخرى "أدور حول لوحاتي كفراشة حول ذاتها" شيء ما يتمركز حول الذات سمحت له مايا بالعبور إلى العوالم المتقاطعة، فاتحة رحلة إلى اللامتناهي، في لغة لمحية تنساب بشاعرية تبوح لنا بما وراء الشكل (الذات) وعلاقتها (بالجسد) هكذا حين يُستدرج السرّ الأوابد ينشر الأسرار، ويستحضر الأجواء الحميمة عبر لوحات فنية نائمة في العمق والظلّ، في السكون وفي السرّ، فتهدم الحدود بين الذاكرة والخيال والواقع وتتداخل معاً لتشكل لنا لوحة فنية عبر "بوركيني" لتبقى خطوة رائدة وإضافة مهمة إلى رصيد صاحبتها تؤكد موقعها على الخريطة الروائية العربية.
