يعرض الشاعر والروائي العراقي محمود جاسم النجار على إثراء كتابته الشعرية سلسلة من الصور الشعرية والمعاني الحياتية العميقة والهموم الوطنية لبلاده، لا بل على إمتداد تراب الأمة العربية وأكثر وكل ذلك يأتي بواسطة جهازه اللغوي المنبثق من لسانية تراثية وحداثية معا؛ وقدراته الفنية والفكرية في معظم أعماله السردية والشعرية ابتداءا من (لظى الذاكرة) مرورا ب(القلب البديل) والمجموعة الشعرية باللغة الإنجليزية المعنونة (Silence Cloak) والانتهاء بمنجزه الشعري الجديد "أيا ظلّ روحي" الذي يعمق عبره مشهده الشعري بكثافة صورية والتخسسل وتحولات الأنا الشاعرة في رصد مظاهر باتت جزءا من المشهد العربي المعاصر في إحالة من الشاعر إلى المشهد العراقي والسوري واللبناني وتمظهر ذلك عبر تداعيات رؤياه داخل الحدث وليعمق أيضا حالات شعرية محتشدة بحركة لغوية تستند على وقائع الأفعال في المشهد اليومي. يقول الشاعر:
"كفانا نحصي عدد موتانا../ كفانا نحصي عدد انفجاراتنا وقتلانا/ كفانا نموت (…)؟ كفانا.. كفى…" وهكذا تتخذ مفردات الشاعر صيغة السخرية المريرة والتقريح المباشر لكل مفاصل الحياة والعلاقات التي تحكم البشر، بما فيها علاقة الحاكم بالمحكوم، والقوي بالضعيف.
تضم المجموعة ثلاثة وأربعون قصيدة نثرية جائت تحت العناوين الآتية: "رجل بميلادين"، ظلال الضفائر"، "دعيني"، "صبر الحكايا"، عتب.. عتب"، "للصمت عنوان"، "يا غربة الأوطان"، "يا ظل بغداد انهضي"، "إليك يا بيروت"، "اغتالوك يا دمشق الله" (…) وقصائد أخرى.
